FAQ & troubleshooting
If I order a Smorobot, do I need to pay for a charger or filters?
No, there’s no need to pay extra.
The Smorobot package includes 1 filter baskets and 1 standard charging adapter.
If you like fast charging,
you need to buy an additional fast charging adapter,
which can fully charge the robot within 1.5 hours for 3.5-hour runtime.
When you say Smorobot covers most surfaces,what has it currently been tested on ?
Smorobot series robots are fit for nearly all pool surfaces, including Pebble, Plaster, Concrete, Paint, Tiles, Gunite, Vinyl Line, PVC and etc.
Is the robot waterproof?
Yes, it has a waterproof rating of IPX8, so it’s entirely waterproof. Make sure to tighten the Charging Port seal cap when you use it.
Can the robot clean the pool while I swim/the pool inlet works?
- Try to clean the pool when it’s not in use.
- Try to clean the pool when the inlet is not working.
Will it get stuck on some shaped drain covers?
We have tested in a large number of underwater real-world scenarios, a Smorobot can easily pass a variety of common drain covers.
Will the robot climb up and clean steps?
Smorobots can easily climb up the steps.
However, in order to fully clean the floor, walls, and waterline, the robot integrates a large-capacity battery and a 4.08L filter basket, so the size of the robot is larger than the width of the normal steps.
It’s hard for the robot to move or turn around on the steps and collect the debris efficiently. So, it’s a design trade-off.
When the robot detects it’s on the steps, it will climb down autonomously and continue cleaning the floor or walls of the pool.
Does it offer changeable brushes for different surfaces?
The high-speed brushes of our Smorobots fit for any material of pool surface, including Pebble, Plaster, Concrete, Paint, Tiles, Gunite, Vinyl Line, PVC and etc.
Meanwhile, the brushes can be easily disassembled and replaced with new ones.
Can I charge my robot in any temperature?
The recommended environment temperature for charging is 6-35℃.
Do not charge your robot in unfavorable temperatures, e.g. in heat exposure.
Tips:
The power supply should be placed in a well ventilated and shaded location.
Is the Charging Port waterproof?
Please make sure the seal cap for Charging Port is tightened to keep water out.
Where does it park when it's done? Does it know when it has covered the entire pool or does it keep going until the battery is low?
The robot will keep cleaning the pool until the battery is low and then stop at the side of the pool.
What should I do before I put my robot in water?
- Make sure the battery is sufficently charged (battery indicator lights up green).
- if more than 5 LED beads of battery indicator light up, the default program is to clean walls first, then the floor;
- if fewer than 5 LED beads light up, the default program is to clean the floor only.
- Open the top cover, insert a clean filter basket in the robot.
- Decide how you’d like to retrieve the robot. Two options are currently offered:
- with the floating rope: attach the rope to the middle of the handle on the top cover, then you can retrieve the robot and lift it out of water through the floating ring at the rope end;
- with the hook (preferred): the assesories provide one plastic hook, two screws and two cap nuts. You need to prepare a standard pool pole, and fix the hook to the pole using a screw and a nut. When the cleaning job is done, you can retrieve the robot with the hook.
- Make sure to tighten the Charging Port seal cap to keep water out.
How do I choose between Standard/Fast mode/Weekly timer mode?
Different cleaning procedures are carried out in two/three modes.
Standard Cleaning Mode: If you haven't cleaned your pool for a long time, or your pool is very dirty and you want to clean all pool surfaces, feel free to use Standard Cleaning Mode.
Floor Only Mode: If you clean your pool on a regular basis and only want to clean floor, feel free to use Floor Only Mode for daily cleaning.
Weekly timer: If you want the robot to clean the pool 3 times a week on one charge, it cleans the floor every 48 hours in W mode.Note: Weekly timer will be activated only on full charge.
Can I place the robot in the water from any place of the pool?
It’s recommended to drop it from a longer side of the pool, with no steps around or uneven floor at the bottom.
How long can the robot be left in water?
We recommend taking your Smorobot out after each use to empty and clean the filter.
Then store it in a cool, dry place.We also recommend rinsing your cleaner with clear water regularly to remove any excess chemicals or salts.
For Smorobot robots with a weekly timer option, the robot can stay in the water of your pool for a week; you will need to clean the filter at the end of the weekly cycle.
What's the off-season care routine for my Smorobot?
If the cleaner will not be in use for an extended period of time, perform the following storage steps: OFF-SEASON STORAGE Thoroughly clean and dry the filter basket, brush rollers, track treads and cogs.
Make sure that no water is left in the cleaner.
The cleaner must be fully charged before storing.
It should be placed in a well ventilated and shaded location, at a temperature between 5°-45°C/41°-113°F, and humidity lower than 80%RH.
Charge the battery at least once every 3 months to protect it from over discharging.
Keep the cleaner out of the reach of children or persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction.

Why does the Robot move noticeably slower than before or/and stops in the pool and has red lateral lights flashing?
Cause: Motor(s) stuck.
Explanation: According to the User Manual, it indicates the robot's motors got stuck as a result of excess friction in the moving parts (gears/cogs and their axle sleeves) that wear out over time and could get jammed sometimes. It's time to do a checkup on your robot and maintain it. The issue can be fixed by doing the following steps.
Solution: Check for debris in the moving parts; maintain the moving parts.
Step 1: Disassemble the side panel, treads and gears to look for any debris that got in by accident.
Step 2:Clean/lubricate the gears and axle sleeves. Replace them when signs of wear are observed. Contact support@smorobot.com to get additional parts kit free of charge and for video tutorials.
What do I do when my Robot gets stuck on the pool drain?
Cause: Drain shape and height, draining speed and volume.
Explanation: Due to the wide variety of drain designs, the Tank X series may have difficulty getting over drain covers in some pools.
Solution:
(1) Turn off the pool pump when the robot is at work in the pool.
(2) Upgrade your robot. The issue can be solved by our latest software versions. Contact support@smorobot.com to get a programming cable free of charge and instructions on software upgrade.
Why does my Robot get stuck on steps/sunshelves?
Cause: Water depth, steps design.
Explanation: The required minimal water depth for Tank X series to work is 50 cm/1.64ft. Water level in the sunshelves area is often lower than that. So is that in waters with steps. In fact, the Tank X series was not designed to clean the steps/sunshelf area.
Solution: Upgrade your robot. The issue can be solved by our latest software versions. Contact support@smorobot.com to get a programming cable free of charge and instructions on software upgrade.
Why does my Robot not climb walls?
Cause: Floor-only mode; low battery; motor pump not working; filter/clogged filter; algae on wall, unsuitable ph level; worn tracks and/or roller brushes.
Solution:
1. Make sure the Robot is not in Floor-only cleaning mode;
2. Fully charge the Robot. When the battery decreases to a certain level, the Robot will stop cleaning walls and start cleaning the floor.
3. Make sure the pump motor works. Power on the Robot outside of water, wait until the roller brushes and treads start moving, then check if the top fan spins. If yes, the pump motor is in good working condition. If the top fan does not spin, please contact support@smorobot.com for assistance
4. Empty/replace filter;
5. Adjust ph levels and scrub algae from the wall;
6. Replace worn treads/roller brushes.
Why does the Robot make squeaky noise when cleaning the waterline?

Why doesn't the yellow light come on in the startup sequence?
Cause: Robot started on uneven ground; moved the cleaner during startup.
Solution: 1. Restart the Robot on even ground; 2. Restart the Robot and do not move it until the yellow light appears.
Why is the power switch difficult to toggle?
Cause: Jammed by sand grains.
Solution: Rinse the switch with hose and try sliding it 5-6 times quickly with some force.
Why do I see water condensation behind the LED lights? Aren't they waterproof?
Explanation: Water beads/condensation are not formed in the lights, but between the lights and the LED cover. The light strip is waterproof while the cover is not. Water condensation does not affect the robot's functionality or charging.
Solution: No solution needed.
Why does the Robot pass by debris but not clean?
Cause: Pump motor not working; filter full/clogged; debris stuck in the impeller.
